Fare provisions for FlixTrain GmbH
1. General provisions
The fare conditions apply to the carriage of passengers and accompanied animals and goods in trains where FlixTrain GmbH is carrier, hereinafter referred to as FlixTrain, and supplement the General Conditions of Carriage. For train journeys using local rail passenger transport (SPNV trains), the fare terms and conditions of Deutschlandtarif (German train fare association) and the terms and conditions of carriage of the respective railway transport company used apply in addition. These can be found in our General Terms and Conditions.
2. Tickets
2.1 Purchasing of tickets
Tickets for the trains operated by FlixTrain can be purchased through the following retail channels:
2.1.1 Online at www.flixtrain.com, as well as through official sales partners of Flix.
2.1.2 Via the telephone hotline number published on the website www.flixtrain.com.
2.1.3 At staffed Flix sales locations (sales offices of partner companies, travel agencies, other agencies).
2.1.4 At ticket machines.
2.2 Tickets purchased for FlixTrain fares
2.2.1 Tickets for the FlixTrain fare are linked to the selected train operated by FlixTrain, to the passenger recorded by name and to the date of travel selected. Prior to commencement of the journey, the name of the passenger recorded on the ticket may be amended for a fee. For through tickets – consisting of a long-distance section and a local rail (SPNV) section – the ticket is also linked to the passenger registered by name. There is no fixed train connection for the portion of the route booked on local rail transport. The through ticket may be used on the portion of the route booked on local rail transport up to 03:00 a.m. on the day following the selected travel day.
2.2.2 Travelers aged 16 and older must provide valid official identification with the ticket to the train personnel for control purposes. The following are recognized as official identification documents:
a) Government issued identity card or comparable document of another country or BÜMA (Bescheinigung über die Meldung als Asylsuchender - a document that certifies that you are applying for asylum)
b) Passport
c) Residence permit
d) Driver’s license
e) Police badge or any similar official identification card including a photo
2.2.3 Tickets purchased at the FlixTrain fare before the start of the journey include a free seat reservation on trains operated by FlixTrain. Reserved areas in the train are indicated by signs/displays. Any claim to the reserved seat is relinquished if the traveler fails to take the seat reserved for him no later than 15 minutes prior to the departure of the train from the departure station stated in the reservation. Train personnel are entitled to assign the seat to another traveler once these 15 minutes have expired. If, for technical/operational reasons, the seat assigned in the reservation is unavailable, the on board personnel will assign a replacement seat according to availability.
3. Fares
3.1 Prices
Passengers must pay the carriage fee valid at the time of booking for the intended day of travel. Tickets purchased via the Internet sites www.flixtrain.com and global.flixbus.com are generally subject to a lower fare than those purchased via other distribution channels. Tickets purchased otherwise are subject to the maximum fare for the respective trip. Tickets purchased prior to the announcement of a price change remain valid after the enactment of the price change according to the conditions applicable at the time of purchase.
Tickets purchased otherwise will be charged at the full rounded up amount in Euros.

3.2 Strollers and prams
The space reservation required for collapsible strollers on board trains operated by FlixTrain is free of charge. The required reservation may only be made prior to departure via the sales channels provided, and is subject to availability. For through tickets – consisting of a long-distance section and a local rail (SPNV) section – the carriage of strollers is also free of charge. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make a reservation on the local rail (SPNV) section.
3.3 Bicycles
A ticket must be purchased for the carriage of a bicycle on board trains. The fee is not dependent on the length of the booked route and the price of the passenger ticket. The required reservation may only be made prior to departure via the sales channels provided, and is subject to availability. The train crew is entitled to unload bicycles, for which a space has not been reserved, at the next station and to discontinue further carriage if there is no free space available or the safety of the train is endangered. For through tickets – consisting of a long-distance section and a local rail (SPNV) section – there is no option to reserve bicycles or guarantee of bringing them on board the local rail transport, even if this was selected during booking.
3.4 Animals
A ticket must be purchased for carriage of dogs as per Item 14 of the FlixTrain General Conditions of Carriage, that is, for dogs which are not or cannot be accommodated in containers such as hand luggage. Guide dogs and companion dogs within the meaning of Section 228, para. 6 sub-paragraph 2 of SGB IX (Sozialgesetzbuch IX [Volume IX of the German Social Insurance Code]), as well as state or federal police service dogs and dogs belonging to emergency services are carried free of charge.
